The Director, Asia Pacific Office is responsible for promoting U.S. interests and advancing civil aviation safety, security and efficiency. The Director reports to the Executive Director for International Affairs and exercises executive direction over the FAA Senior Representatives and support staff assigned to the Asia-Pacific Office.
Specific responsibilities include:
Represents the agency as the senior spokesperson in the area in relationships with representatives of the U.S. Government, U.S. aviation interests, foreign governments and aviation entities, and international organizations within the area for which the office has responsibility and engages in high level contact, negotiation, and committee memberships involving work with U.S. diplomatic missions, the military services, foreign governments, other Federal Agencies, executives of the aviation industry, and representatives of international organizations.
Directs, supervises and coordinates the execution of non-operational Agency responsibilities and special projects as assigned in the region including the direction and planning of work performed by FAA senior representations, civil aviation assistance groups, and foreign or U.S.-based staffs assigned to the office.
Fosters civil aviation technical assistance provided by the U.S. through reimbursable agreements and manages technical civil aviation assistance to foreign countries within geographic area of responsibility.
Promotes the common system of air traffic control and navigation for both civil and military aircraft.
Organizes and leads FAA delegations to international aviation conferences.

The person selected for this position may be required to file a financial disclosure statement within 30 days of entry on duty. FAA policy limits certain outside employment and financial investments in aviation-related companies.
This position is covered by the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program. Any applicant tentatively selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment or pre-appointment drug screening. Persons occupying a "testing designated position (TDP)" will be subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
This is an international assignment in Singapore and is temporary in nature. The initial assignment will be a two year tour, with the expectation that the successful candidate will serve two tours. The total of the tours and any extensions may not exceed 60 months, except when specifically authorized by the FAA Administrator. Any FAA employee selected for this position and successfully completes at least one tour, has return rights to his/her parent organization (normally identified as FAA employing jurisdiction from which the employee was selected) to a position equivalent to the one occupied immediately preceding the international assignment; i.e., same pay plan, band/grade. Placement assistance in an FAA position will be provided upon conclusion of the international assignment. Each selectee and representatives of both the parent (if applicable) and receiving organization shall execute an International Assignment Agreement before the selectee's relocation to his/her international assignment duty location.
FAA executives (EV-1 and EV-2) who are assigned to international positions have return rights to an executive position at the band 2 level in the same organization (office or service) to which permanently assigned immediately prior to accepting the international position. Chief Scientific and Technical Advisors (CSTA) have return rights to a CSTA position in the same organization. The Administrator may designate placement within a different organization, based on position availability and current priorities.
The selection of a non-FAA individual will result in a temporary appointment and that appointment will be terminated at the conclusion of the international assignment.
A State Department medical clearance is a requirement for appointment to this position.
The selectee must complete the mandatory training offered through State Department's Foreign Service Institute before reporting to the foreign duty location.
