-Responsible for providing guidance for IT security development and implementation plans, and conducting IT security testing and Assessment and Authorization to meet department operations requirements, and ensure end users adhere to security policy and guidelines.

-Implements systems security policies, guidelines and procedures for systems, including initial design, system lifecycle change review, and configuration management.
-Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
-Implements higher-level security requirements; participates in testing and implementation of new security technologies; participates in contingency or disaster recovery plans.
-Participates in the assessment of new systems design methodologies; institutes measures to ensure awareness and compliance; reviews and provides feedback on proposed new systems for potential security risks.
-Advises and assists staff in carrying out security development, implementation, operations, and maintenance requirements.
-Recommends ways to protect the bureau/office's information and information systems.
