This position is an Electronics Engineer who serves as a contributing specialist responsible for assisting others in assigning FAA frequencies and providing radio frequency interference (RFI) resolution and prevention services for a designated location within central United States. This position is critical to the safe and efficient operation of the NAS.
Applies basic knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts applicable to his/her discipline to accomplish assignments. He/she assists journeyman and senior Spectrum Engineers/Technicians in the management of frequencies and the resolution of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). He/she will be provided with on the job training in FAA Spectrum software, Federal and non-Federal spectrum engineering principles, theories, and concepts (e.g. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) FAA Order 6050.32B, National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), Federal Communications Commission (FCC) 47 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) Part 300) and RFI resolution. Additional training to be provided will be in the use of spectrum analyzers; Direction Finding (DF) techniques and tools; and the FAA Spectrum RFI vehicle suite of tools. Performs electromagnetic signal measurements to identify the highest probability locations of an RFI source.
He/she collects and analyzes radio and aeronautical frequencies data. Analyzes airspace cases to ensure non-federal users do not cause interference to critical aeronautical facilities. Performs Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) trend analyses, as needed to determine the effect of proposed systems on current NAS systems. Uses operating test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, direction finding equipment, and oscilloscopes.
He/she analyzes actions for proper distribution, assure appropriate databases are up to date with the latest RFI incidents and actions, and provide coordination through completion. He/she will coordinate significant technical matters with higher level engineers from other teams within AJW-1C, contribute analyses and collected data to engineers for the development of documentation, reports, and briefings to include analysis of findings on frequency assignment issues, provide recommendations to AJW-1C management and Service Area Frequency Management Officers (FMO) on frequency assignment issues on NAS CNS systems. Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced engineer when existing guidelines are not available or applicable.
Contacts primary internal to Spectrum Engineering Services Group, under supervision may have limited contact with representatives from domestic civil aviation organizations and industries. Contacts also include other government agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Defense (DoD), the FCC and the NTIA.
Work is reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion for all aspects of quality.

Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: Professional Engineering: To be acceptable curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential AND integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics & chemistry) in FIVE of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature & properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

B. Combination of Education & Experience - College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical & mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
1) Professional registration - Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
2) Written Test - Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for the professional registration which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
3) Specified Academic Courses - Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A above
4) Related Curriculum - Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g. in interdisciplinary positions. (The above examples of curricula are not all-inclusive.)
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but not limited to: Experience collecting and analyzing radio and aeronautical frequencies data.
