WHAT IS THE ONLINE SERVICES DIVISION? The IRS Office of Online Services is dedicated to providing and improving online (web and mobile) self-service tools to taxpayers to obtain needed information and fulfill their tax obligations. The office combines online expertise, data analysis and business knowledge to conceptualize online tools and develop product roadmaps.
WHAT DOES AN USER EXPERIENCE DESIGNER DO? As a UX Designer you will be responsible for improving, designing and assisting in the development of intuitive taxpayer experiences, which are developed by a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of design and usability principles, business judgment, and problem solving. You will design ways to improve the end-user interaction to increase satisfaction and overall use of IRS products and services based on user needs. You will also be responsible for designing dynamic experiences and aiding in the implementation of interactive visual elements and components on IRS.gov and other agency websites.

In order to successfully complete the Recent Graduates Program, you must complete 1 year in the position, a minimum of at least 40 hours of interactive training, and demonstration of successful job performance. If for any reason you do not successfully complete the program you will be returned to the previous grade of the same or similar position you previously held within IRS prior to being selected for the Recent Graduates Program.
In the Recent Graduates Program you may qualify based solely on education, experience or a combination of both. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:
GS-9 LEVEL: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Analyzing, methods and procedures to research and assist in the development of new website service deliver. Analyzing and evaluating methods and techniques to assist in research of emerging technologies, design, content creation and development strategies for the Web. Using JavaScript frameworks and libraries, as well as HTML and CSS to communicate technical details. Experience using current design principles and development techniques to enhance the look and usability of websites. Preparing draft reports and other substantive guidelines and materials;
OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: a Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field of study at an accredited college or university. OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in a related field of study. OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.
For Grades 5 through 11: You may qualify with a combination of qualifying education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
In addition to the above you must have, within the previous 2 years, completed all educational requirements for a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution; or intended graduation is no more than 9 months from date of application.
