This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts for COVID-19.
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist CRNA) is an individual who under the direction of the appropriately credentialed anesthesiologist, assists the anesthesia physician in the provision of health care service and provides medical care within a defined scope of practice with a licensed physician utilizing established practice guidelines.
Under the direction of the appropriately credentialed anesthesiologist, duties normally performed by a CRNA include, but are not limited to: Pre-anesthetic patient assessment by conducting and documenting an appropriate anesthetic history and physical examination; ordering appropriate consults and diagnostic tests; selecting anesthetic pre-medications and fluids; developing and implementing an anesthetic plan; obtaining consent for administration of anesthesia; initiating an anesthetic technique as appropriate, including but not limited to: general anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care (MAC); regional anesthesia (as permitted by privileges); local anesthesia; selecting and applying appropriate monitoring devices (as permitted by privileges); administration of anesthesia, airway management, adjuvant drugs and fluids as appropriate for the care of the patient; managing immediate post-anesthesia care as needed including: pain management; fluid administration; respiratory support; transfer of care to the PACU or ICU as needed; post-anesthesia follow-up and documentation; emergency core duties include: CPR; treatment of acute respiratory failure; treatment of immediate life threatening injuries.
The Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is expected to show the ability to work effectively with patients, families or significant others, with professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care, and with members of other services.
In addition to these and other assigned duties, the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist has the following responsibilities: participation in Quality Management activities including but limited to monthly Anesthesia Section Quality Improvement meetings and monthly Surgical Service Morbidity and Mortality meetings; participation in selected committees as designated by the Chief of Anesthesia; participation in appropriate continuing education activities as necessary to maintain licensure and acceptable levels of knowledge and technical skills; and adherence to the Medical bylaws of the facility.
