Serves as a senior principal advisor in landscape ecology for the Pacific West Region to apply a scientifically credible approach to the stewardship, study, and analysis of organisms and ecological relationships, especially at broad ecosystem scales. The landscape ecologist will craft the vision, development and implementation of this new program in Interior Region 8, 9,10, 12 (formerly known as the Pacific West Region) in collaboration with Regional Natural Resources, Inventory and Monitoring, Fire, Cultural Resources, and Interpretation and Education Teams.
Develops guidance to deal with more complex or novel problems, or with undeveloped or controversial aspects of ecology and other natural resources and their management. Identifies research needs, prepares grant proposals and statements of work. Negotiates cooperative and interagency agreements and other instruments. Coordinates regional land/seascape ecological strategies and programs with adjacent landowners, agencies, academia, communities and Native Peoples in an atmosphere of mutual respect for the purposes of achieving common resource conservation goals.
Works closely with the region and park interpretation and education staff to further scientific knowledge and relevancy to diverse audiences.
Leads and works effectively in interdisciplinary teams to facilitate integration of cross-functional services and products, and to identify, create, and maintain productive internal and external collaborative partnerships.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.

Physical Demands: The position may require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying heavy objects when doing field work or site visits. Some activities will occur in physically dangerous areas or settings. Documentary research and report writing work is sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time.
Working Environment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas including steep slopes, rocky terrain, volcanoes, caves, fire lines, arctic environments, swamps, deserts, and forests. Flying in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters is possible.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. No full-time telework is permitted.
