STVHCS is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) with research experience for the Bartter Clinical Research Unit (BCRU). The BCRU is primarily an outpatient clinic with inpatient capability. The unit conducts various research projects with nursing providing direct patient care. The RN will consistently be able to fulfill the standards of Nursing Practice in accordance with established policies and procedures of the Department of Veterans Affairs and Nursing Service.

The RN will perform a wide range of clinical and/or administrative duties. Duties may include but are not limited to: He/ She will provide direct patient care to include data collection, laboratory processing, monitoring, research interventions, vital signs, EKGs, immunizations, injections, PICC line management, setting up and assisting with procedures and other tasks as required. The incumbent will conduct research related procedures (e.g. analox glucose analyzer, calorimeter, Ultrasound Guided PIV placement etc.) and study protocols. The incumbent will collaborate with principal investigators, research team, administrative staff, and other health care professionals to help facilitate research in the unit or elsewhere in Audie L Murphy as time permits. The incumbent will identify and communicate to PI and research staff members opportunities for improvement that will impact the research activities. The incumbent participates in the development and implementation of education for research personnel based upon performance improvement initiatives as determined by nursing research administration. Provides timely information about trends and patterns regarding key indicators of care or services as well as opportunities to improve health care delivery. The RN will oversee the duties and performance of the LVNs. May function as charge nurse and preceptor, prepare schedules, makes/adjusts staffing assignments, etc.
Work Schedule: Flexible scheduling to include off-tours (Day/Evening) ; some weekends; nights maybe required
