Serves as a Maintenance Mechanic located with Engineering Services. The incumbent accomplishes routine and emergency repair, evaluation, and installation of plants and structures, facilities, including environmental systems, radar, communication and navigational aid antenna systems. Applies general knowledge of electronic systems and equipment involved in work assignments; takes necessary precautions to avoid interference with operations of the system or damage to its equipment.
Works alone or in a group performing Mechanical, Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, Cable Installation/Replacement, Welding/Metal Fabrication, and Painting.
This position requires knowledge and application of materials; and safety and security regulations, practices and procedures. Works from blueprints, work orders, plans, sketches and other written specifications and oral instructions. Must be able to maintain, repair and use a variety of hand tools, testing equipment and power equipment characteristic of the various trades.
Extensive travel is required throughout the region.
To qualify, no specific length of experience or training is required. However, you must show evidence of experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of a journeyman Maintenance Mechanic. The position requires knowledge, skill and abilities in various trades of work such as mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding/metal fabrication, painting and general knowledge of electronics and equipment.
You MUST provide a NARRATIVE statement for each Demonstrated Ability. The narratives should be clear and concise, providing a description of your education, training and experience that would describe the degree to which you possess each Demonstrated Ability. Candidates must show experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility appropriate to the position.

Physical Effort: The position requires strenuous manual labor. Workers make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. Work requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Considerable lifting, pulling and carrying of heavy materials equipment, and tools. Must be able to physically climb towers up to 350 feet in height and poles 90 feet in height.
Working Conditions: The work is performed both inside and outside during all kinds of weather, varying from 120 degrees to -20 degrees F. Workers are required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes; and in close quarters such as crawl spaces and manholes. Subject to danger of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, cuts, bruises, inhalation of paint and herbicide fumes and hazards of using chemicals and rotary devices. Physical exertion is required in setting up and taking down scaffolding. Working conditions elevation may vary from sea level to 12,000 feet. A high-altitude physical condition is required.
