Work will be reviewed and guidance provided by the office manager, Senior Aviation Safety Inspector (SASI), or other journeyman inspectors.
Under direction of the manager or SASI, you may be called upon to research appropriate Codes of Federal Regulations (CFRs) and other governing documentation to assist in providing a response to internal and external stakeholders regarding certification or continued operational safety issues. This may include reviews of airworthiness application packages from applicants seeking airworthiness certification of aircraft. You may conduct and/or assist with the review of the applicant’s package for accuracy and completeness noting any anomalies to the manager or SASI.
You will assist senior ASI’s with the evaluation of applicant quality control data and quality management systems to determine compliance to CFRs applicable to Production Certificates (PC), Parts Manufacturing Approvals, (PMA), and Technical Standard Order Authorizations (TSOA), in the office and onsite using evaluation/auditing techniques. This includes initial evaluation of applicant requests for production approvals for accuracy, completeness and assisting in planning preliminary MIDO evaluations. Under the direction of the manager, or SASI, you may process FAA production approval correspondence along with the completion of any post evaluation documentation in the FAA’s Aircraft Certification Audit Information System (ACAIS).

To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized experience for this position may include, but is not limited to experience that demonstrates experience assisting office manager, Senior Aviation Safety Inspector, principal inspectors, engineers and other FAA offices in program associated with continued operational safety, regulatory development, type and production certification projects, certificate management activities, and designated and/or delegation oversight.
To qualify at FG-11, One Year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level (FG/GS-9) that is typically in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized experience for this position may include, but is not limited to experience that demonstrates working at an FAA Production Approval Holder or applicant for a production approval (PC, PMA, TSOA, APIS) in a quality control/quality assurance position working with less complex or limited types of aviation products and less autonomy.
