If you are an EPA internal employee in the commuting area of Lakewood, CO, and are: - Current permanent employee of the Office of Criminal Enforcement, Forensics and Training (OCEFT) with competitive status; or - EPA Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) eligible.
You will:
-Serve as a nationally recognized expert in the field of environmental forensic chemistry, responsible for administering and resolving complex program and project issues, relying on knowledge of analytical tools, quality assurance requirements, and regulatory enforcement requirements.
-Maintain a full caseload of analytical projects, including service as Primary Analytical Chemist, project reviewer, and analyst. Select methods for the analyses of environmental samples and assure that the analyses are performed within required quality control guidelines, in accordance with NEIC's accreditation.
-Serve as an expert on forensic analytical chemistry with responsibility for review, analysis, coordination of proposed, new, or revised regulations and guidance document.
-Serve as the Laboratory Branch's lead point of contact for criminal Investigations Division (CID) to provide technical support during sampling events, including providing support to CID agents during after-hours operations.
-Assist Laboratory Branch management with tracking project statuses, making project assignments, reporting out on project statuses, and prioritizing projects that may have conflicting schedules/analyses.
You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
You will be required to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.

This position requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-14 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-13 level defined as experience conducting chemical analyses in a laboratory setting; experience developing and improving approaches, techniques, and procedures to ensure delivery of laboratory support; experience in the development, implementation, evaluation and continuous updating of methods, techniques, and procedures used in conducting criminal, civil, and administrative investigations and compliance assistance.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; Or a combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major listed above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
