As a Park Ranger you will be responsible for preparing and implementing educational, youth and volunteer programs at John Muir National Historic Site, and assists with such programs at Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site and Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park. You will be a "public face" of the National Park Service, conducting interpretation, education, outreach and civic engagement programs, especially with youth, volunteers and community groups. You will give formal and informal educational presentations. Assist in coordinating volunteers, youth and volunteer services, as well as recruit and orient new volunteers. You will also help with monitoring and reporting the condition of the park resources, working closely with colleagues, other divisions, and ensuring the protection of resources and the safety of visitors, volunteers, employees and the public.
Area Information: This position is part of a four park complex located in Central Contra Costa County east of San Francisco Bay. Duty station would be at John Muir NHS, Martinez, California, with occasional work conducted at Eugene O'Neill NHS Danville, California, Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front NHP Richmond, California or Port Chicago Naval Magazine NM, Concord, California. Winters are moderate and wet while summers are hot and dry. No Government quarters are available and cost of living is relatively high in the Bay Area. These cities are of several suburban communities in central Contra Costa County, all of which provide housing, retail, health care, entertainment, recreation and other services. Public schools in the area are considered superior.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, and the incumbent must have the ability to routinely carry backpacks of up to 50 pounds in steep terrain and in adverse weather conditions.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in a setting in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g., high or low temperatures, confined spaces or adverse weather conditions.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
