This position is located in the Eastern States Office, Northeastern States District, Division of Natural Resources based in Milwaukee, WI, covering the 20 northeastern states. The incumbent works as a multi-disciplinary specialist performing a wide variety of professional interrelated biological and physical science (i.e., wildlife, vegetation, soil, water, and air, etc.) and recreation management duties in support of Federal surface and subsurface environmental and compliance reviews and management. Since the duties of this position involve several different programs, the incumbent must exhibit superior coordination and communication skills. The incumbent must exhibit professional resources skill and abilities in a variety of natural and physical resource management disciplines.

Physical Demands: This position requires varying proportions of office and field oriented duties. Office duties will often require long periods of time at duty station inputting, organizing, and interpreting data. Office duties also require significant amounts of time coordinating and planning program factors with staff, outside interest groups, and other agencies. Field duties may involve long hours of driving, hiking, climbing, and other forms of outdoor physical activities. Field trips may vary from one day to two weeks in duration. The incumbent is expected to operate a four-wheel drive vehicles/all-terrain vehicles/utility terrain vehicles in remote areas. The incumbent is required to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment: Work involves exposure to moderate risks and discomforts. In the field, exposure to adverse weather conditions, rough terrain, insects, snakes, wild animals and other hazards is probable. The incumbent will carefully adhere to all safety procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.

ALL PHYSICAL SCIENTIST SPECIALIST APPLICANTS must have the following basic requirements: A degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics, OR a combination of education & experience equivalent to a major listed above that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science plus appropriate experience or additional education.
