In order to be eligible for this position you must currently be an Enlisted Member (E-2/PV2 - E-7/SFC) in the Virginia Army National Guard OR Not Currently in the Virginia Army National Guard but you must be willing and eligible to immediately Join the Virginia Army National Guard at one of those military ranks.
As an Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-10 (Title 32), you will perform the below duties:
(1) Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, an inspection of onboard emergency equipment. Conducts checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc.
(2) Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Performs the full range of repair and testing of aircraft system, assemblies, and surfaces. Using a variety of methods involving test equipment, visual checks and instruments, diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required. Removes components and assemblies, repairs or replaces defective parts and components and reassembles repaired items into the aircraft. Installs, aligns, and makes needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc., assisting Specialists as required. Accomplishes adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs. Conducts ground functional tests of all aircraft systems. Services aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, and hydraulic fluid. Launches and recovers assigned and transient aircraft; performs inspections prior ot takeoff. Inspects for conditions such as oil, fuel, and hydraulic leak, cut lines, tires and loose panels.
(3) May be required to perform such additional duties as fire-fighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc.
(4) Perform other duties as assigned.
Remarks - Multiple Tenures: If selected, applicant may either receive a position with Permanent or Indefinite tenure. If the applicant selected receives an indefinite appointment they may be released at any time, and advised of his/her rights and benefits to which entitled. In the event a permanent employee is accepted for this indefinite position, there will be a change in their tenure from permanent to indefinite. Indefinite appointments may be made permanent at a later date without competition.
WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E-2/PV2 - E-7/SFC) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.
GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E-2/PV2 - E-7/SFC), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.
GROUP III -Individuals eligible for membership in the Virginia Army National Guard.

Compatible Military Assignments: E:CMF: 15, 91, 92, 94
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability in troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and modification of fixed and rotary wing aircraft systems, airframes, components and assemblies, where the work requires substantive knowledge of the airframe and aircraft mechanical, pneudraulic, and/or electrical systems and their interrelationships.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Do you have at least 18 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-09 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WS grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:
