The Accounting Technician will be responsible and accountable for all day-to-day assignments and tasks as well as the following duties, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for travel functions to include responsibility as the authority on travel matters, to include furnishing advice and information to travelers, VABHS and VISN 1 administrative officials, and others on travel related regulations and procedures.
- Obligate and maintain a file of documents covering estimated travel and related expenses.
- Initiate payments directly to the traveler or travel agency after vouchers have been audited, and reconcile the daily payment listing to ensure the accurate and efficient processing of payments.
- Responsible for assuring the appropriate accounting classification is consistent with all requirements for the travel; i.e., Medical Care, Education and Training, Research or NE-RHEC, and that the document is recorded as an obligation prior to initiation of the travel.
- Provide advice and assistance to all segments of the Medical Center and VISN 1 Network Office concerning matters related to travel management, such as modes of travel, routes, tolls, per diem, calculating fares, proper format of reimbursement vouchers, etc.
- Auditing of travel related documents and reports to verify accuracy and compliance to travel policy.
- Research and process travel rejects on multiple databases, including the Financial Management System (FMS)
- Provided ongoing training for Travel Authorizations and vouchers aon the Concur Government Edition travel database.
- Responsible for accurately auditing and approving employee Travel Authorizations and vouchers for station 478 and 523 official travel, including flight bookings, employee cost centers, appropriations and budget object class.

NOTE: Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations where patients receive care or who come into contact with VA patients as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, paid and unpaid, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, students, researchers, volunteers, and trainees who work at these facilities. HCP that are unable to receive or otherwise decline a flu shot will be expected to wear a face mask throughout the influenza season.
Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
