This is a career-ladder position with potential to the GS-11 level. At the GS-07 and 09 levels, the incumbent will perform progressively more difficult duties at a reduced level of responsibility while receiving on-the-job and other appropriate training that will prepare him/her for promotion to the next higher grade level. At the full-performance level, the incumbent is responsible for the acquisition and management of the wide range of spatial information required to support the management of public lands and performs a variety of duties including, but not limited to, the following:

For GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service –OR-1 full year of graduate level education –OR- a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement. Specialized Experience for GS-07 Level: Examples include using well established policies, procedures and techniques, such as assisting in GIS data preparation and entry; use of GIS hardware and software and providing cartographic products such as maps, drawings and illustrations using CAD technology and graphics.
Specialized Experience for GS-09 Level: Examples include providing coordination and technical direction of GIS data preparation, entry and analysis; managing GIS operations project schedules and data entry/digitizing; administering data base; coordinating system user activities.
Equivalent combinations of post-high school education and specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
