Assists and serves customers, answers telephone, operates a cash register, receives payment, makes change, prepares special orders, completes sales record and prepares written sales slip for items as appropriate. Receives and processes incoming tools and equipment. Responsible for receiving, transferring, storing, inventorying, identifying and issuing the full range of available items used by personnel and patrons. Assists in inventories by counting items on hand, searching for missing items and taking recounts as necessary. Collects required fees and accounts for all moneys received and prepares daily activity reports. Stores items in established locations and sets up specific locations for new items. Issues and receives facility tools, parts and equipment turned in and checks for any damaged or work conditions. Maintains all items in good order and working condition in accordance with safety regulations. May perform minor repair of simple equipment. Cleans and services supply items as required. Reports damaged or inoperable tools, parts and equipment to the supervisor. Complies with all fire, safety, security and environmental rules and regulations. Must be able to obtain and maintain a government travel card.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EVALUATIONS:
Knowledge of general clerical and administrative methods and techniques. Knowledge of automotive parts, services and tools. Knowledge of the range of items in stock to identify specific items requested by users from description of their intended usage. Skill to determine substitute and interchangeable items by referring to specifications, stock catalogues, manuals and bulletins. Knowledge of procedures for verifying and reporting short, over and damaged conditions of incoming stock. Skill to determine when equipment should be repaired or replaced in addition to making minor repairs to equipment. Knowledge to select and set up storage locations for tools and equipment. Skill to operate general office machines. Must be trained in cash handling procedures and operation of a cash register and calculator. Skill to perform basic math required to complete required reports.
RESPONSIBILITY: The supervisory provides oral and written instructions that indicate the work to be done and the requirements of the general plan. Independently completes work in accordance with established methods and procedures. Work is done on a day-to-day basis with minimum supervision.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Continuous walking, standing, bending, stooping and working in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed in an area that is well lighted and ventilated. May be exposed to noise, draft and engine fumes from auto exhaust. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises. May come in contact with and be required to handle hazardous materials/substances. May be required to wear protective clothing/equipment. May be exposed to inclement weather when required to work outdoors.
