The individual practices in an autonomous role. The PA demonstrates advanced competencies in assessing, treating and coordinating care for the physical and psychosocial status of individuals and their families while in ICU. The PA collaborates with physicians where appropriate and other members of the health care team when appropriate to ensure comprehensive quality patient care. Additionally, he/she functions in a role with delegated medical functions. The PA must demonstrate expertise in making medical judgments. The PA is an active member of the multidisciplinary health care team. The PA will participate in and/or develop and lead in the monitoring and evaluation
Works collaboratively with the staff physician (s) and consulting physician (s) in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans; assists in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of the health care services. Working Critical Care Unit under the supervision of Critical Care Physicians. Responsible for the initial evaluation and on-going management of critically ill patients. Daily duties may include daily rounds, order entry, prescribing of medicines as dictated by scope of practice, dictation of initial histories and physicals, and completion of discharge summaries, procedures in the ICU and evaluation of patients during Codes and Rapid Response Teams
