Provides leadership, guidance, and training to at least five (5) or more laundry workers.
Approves and disapproves emergency leave, ensuring that schedules are set allowing for all program requirements to be met. Advises subordinates on performance and process improvements. Recommends awards and/or corrective/disciplinary actions; gives input on annual performance appraisals. May assist with interviews and recommend applicants for selection or promotion.
Conducts training on proper work methods and safety procedures. Fully implements all safety, fire prevention, MSDS, and environmental/industrial hygiene requirements. Assures safety and standard operating procedures are observed. Assists with investigating and preparing reports for staff mishaps/accidents. Forwards to the immediate supervisor in a timely manner.
Handles staff suggestions and complaints, resolving problems in a tactful and diplomatic manner, referring difficult and/or unusual situations to management. Ensures that EEO concepts are applied, and that an appropriate work environment is maintained.
Inventories laundry to determine billing (where applicable) and detect missing inventory. Writes invoices, keeps inventory, records damages and issues requests for replacement. Maintain daily documentation of quality control in logbook. Maintains a log of all work performed on a daily basis.
Determines and places order for cleaning supplies, materials, or equipment that will be needed by the laundry staff and ensures items are available when required. Ensures equipment is properly maintained, stored, and accounted for. Performs a monthly/quarterly inventory, as required. The incumbent is responsible for the security of all items in the storeroom and/or assigned areas.
Sorts, washes, and dries laundry in accordance with established instructions, as needed. Operates commercial washers, dryers, and irons paying special attention to detail while working with the laundry to prevent staining, over-bleaching, and/or over-starching.
Maintains the laundry facility. Coordinates with Maintenance Manager for minor maintenance to laundry equipment. Cleans filters, equipment, and notifies Housekeeping Manager of any malfunctions. Cleans all laundry equipment daily.
Perform all other related duties assigned.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
One year experience as a laundry worker or a similar position in the hotel industry is highly desirable. Must possess the ability to lead subordinates. Must possess the ability to instruct and to perform the work with normal supervision. Must possess basic math and reading skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing in English with management, staff and guests.
A general knowledge of processes, chemicals, and equipment associated with laundry services and have one (1) year of general laundry experience.
Must have the ability to work independently and lead the laundry attendants in day to day operations/functions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, and a variety of repetitive motions. Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor such as unassisted lifting, moving, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 4 5 pounds. On
occasion, assisted lifting, carrying, or moving up to 100 pounds may be required. May be required to climb/descend stairs and properly placed stepladders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily done indoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Exposure to outdoors is necessary to deliver laundry to other buildings. The incumbent is exposed to dirt, disagreeable odors, and skin/eye irritants from *strong cleaning solutions used in the laundry process. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided, used, and if issued, worn appropriately.
*NOTE: System is automated. According to Industrial Hygienist, exposure is very limited
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or in the interest of national security and may be required to report for work when other employees are excused.
This position is subject to the possibility of working on weekends and holidays, as well as, rotating shifts, often consisting of other than normal duty hours.
May be required to possess a valid state driver license. Travel to other facilities may be required within the normal scope of duties. Applicants will be notified when this is a requirement for appointment.
This position is subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).
The incumbent is required to obtain a laundry attendant certification or industry equivalent within 6 months of employment, as well as, any other requirements outlined in the Lodging Career Path Guide.
