EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

You must meet both the (1) Experience and/or Education Requirement and the (2) Pathways Program Requirements.
(1) EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
GS 5: applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service which demonstrates skill in analyzing and interpreting regulations and policy, the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and the ability to use software applications to develop reports, spreadsheets, and track data. Examples may include researching policy and/or procedures and presenting analysis orally or in writing; using software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel to develop reports and track data; or providing guidance to customers based on standard operating procedures or policies.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
GS-5: Completion of four (4) academic years of post-high school education
NOTE: One (1) year of education is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements. Only education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used.

PATHWAYS PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION:
The Agency has the option to convert an intern to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) if the requirements of the program are met. This is not automatic. It is at the discretion of the employing office. Interns may be converted to the GS level qualified for at the time of conversion. To be eligible for conversion, an intern must:
