The RME Coordinator collaborates with the SPS Chief in the development, implementation, coordination, maintenance and evaluation of all activities associated with reusable medical equipment. This individual ensures that all areas of the Medical Center that use RME are in compliance with VHA and local guidelines for safe use of RME.

The RME Nurse is responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility, VISN, or VACO. Program is defined as a substantial coordinated group of activities impacting patients and/or employees. The RME Coordinator (a) Leads and organizes delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice; (b) Uses advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes, (c) Functions as an expert in quality improvement practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities, (d) Systematically evaluates current practice, and formulating outcomes of organizational processes within an area of expertise, (e) Guides, develops, and supports staff from a leadership perspective, (f) Uses professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities, Plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates the Medical Center's RME program, (g) Collects, monitors, analyzes, and reports RME program data and makes recommendations for performance improvement, (h) Oversees the development and approval of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and associated staff competencies for re-processing of all RME in collaboration with the Chief, Sterile Processing Service (SPS), (i) In collaboration with the Chief, SPS, ensures that all staff responsible for re-processing of RME have initial and annual competency validation, (j) Serves as Co-Chair, RME Committee, (k) Develops and maintain a mechanism for ongoing monitoring of appropriate RME practices to include routine inspections and tracers of all areas where RME is re-processed, (l) Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the standards and requirements of external accrediting and regulatory bodies, e.g. Joint Commission, OIG etc., related to RME, (m) Communicates and interacts appropriately and courteously with internal and external customers, (n) Maintains confidentiality of patient/employee information at all times and in all forms, (o) Integrates principles of performance improvement into his/her professional practice.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8am - 4:30pm, might vary at times depending on the needs of the service.
