The General Engineer serves as Project Manager, responsible for overall management, planning, control, coordination and execution of assigned projects and studies involving determination of solutions to complex problems, and coordination with other services, VACO, contractors, architectural engineering firms, and construction firms. Projects include building construction and modification, utility systems, and road and grounds work. Actively involved in project coordination issues including initial planning, utility shutdowns temporary moves, system compatibility problems, inspections, activation, and training. Activities require regular application of technical knowledge in several related professional areas such as mechanical, electrical and civil engineering and ensures projects are designed and built in accordance with applicable codes, (i.e.) NFPA, the Joint Commission Standards, Uniform-Building Codes, VA Construction Standards, VA specifications and design criteria.
