This position provides practical technical support related to the scientific management of noxious weed populations in rangeland environments.
Incumbent is responsible for leading and performing a wide variety of operational projects related to the support of weed and invasive species management projects and programs.
Responsible for various on the ground weed control projects, providing public contact, and reporting/documenting functions.
Initiate preventive activities to quickly and efficiently control small weed infestations and develop new methods and practices to treat specific types of infestations.
Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring running, walking, or bending; walking or climbing over rocky areas, through dense vegetation, and in mountainous terrain. The incumbent must be in good physical condition, be able to lift heavy objects, and perform strenuous physical activity for prolonged periods of time. The incumbent may be required to carry up to 45 pounds on his/her back over uneven terrain.
Work Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. The employee will carefully adhere to all safety policies and procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
This position falls under the Technical and Medical Support group coverage.
Specialized Experience Requirements: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
For GS-06 Grade Level: Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-05 in the federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as having demonstrated experience: performing work in the conservation, regulation and use of public or federally controlled lands for grazing, conducting range research activities, work in the operation of a livestock ranch or assist in the management or preservation of lands comparable to the public range. OR One (1) full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education related to range technician work such as a major study in forestry, range management, agriculture or a subject-matter field directly related to this position that has equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position. OR have an equivalent combination of experience and education described above.
GS-07 Grade Level: Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-06 in the federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as having experience: independently prescribing a treatment regime for a given infestation of a noxious weed species. OR One (1) full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education related to range technician work such as a major study in forestry, range management, agriculture or a subject-matter field directly related to this position that has equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position. OR have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education which is directly related to the position.

This is a career seasonal appointment; you will be in a pay status for at least 6 months, but less than 12 months a year. When work or funds are not available you will be placed in non-pay status. NOTE: Pay status may be less than 6 months upon initial appointment.
Must be able to possess a valid driver's license to operate government vehicles and equipment. In addition, may be required to obtain state certification for pesticide application.
This position requires you to wear an officially-approved uniform while in a duty status.
You must be 18 years of age or older to be assigned to a hazardous position.
Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid by the Department of the Interior. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
