WHAT DOES A LEAD TAX EXAMINING TECHNICIAN DO?
As a Lead Tax Examining Technician you will resolve complex individual return cases that cannot be processed by a tax examiner timely. You may be required to communicate with organizations outside of ERS (Accounts Management, Taxpayer Advocacy Service, etc.). Your assignments may include ensuring inventory control, recognizing procedures that are preventing a case from being processed, and ensuring that all updates or change in procedures are being communicated with the tax examiners. If you will use your technical as well as communication skills to instruct your workgroup in the processing individual returns electronically.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-7 LEVEL: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: experience using business tax law, IRM, IRC, IRS collection techniques and enforcement actions, tax forms, notices, bills, and other documents to advise the taxpayer of options for meeting tax obligations; Investigative/probing techniques to solicit relevant information; Communicating specialized information orally or in writing with internal and external customers regarding inventory management procedures; providing clear and concise replies to taxpayers or their representatives. Experience processing IMF Rejects and IMF RAW.
- The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
