The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Clinical Director at Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, New Mexico. The Clinical Director is responsible for the executive and clinical leadership and management of the Division of Clinical Services and works collaboratively with other divisions and with the two health center and two health stations. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Clinical Duties: Provide direct patient care; provides consultation with clinical staff; plan and conduct regular and special medical staff meetings and/or conferences; make rounds to ensure patients are receiving proper medical care; reviews and evaluates clinical programs to improve the delivery and quality of patient care, including evaluation of Government Performance Results Act (GPRA); interview and examine patients, review past medical history, request or perform diagnostic tests and examinations as necessary; refer patients to appropriate contract medical or other government facilities; respond to acute emergency interventions; perform assignments beyond Clinical Director duties such as being detailed to assist other Indian Health Service and Navajo Area Indian Health Service Units or facilities on an emergency basis.
Management Support Duties: Develop and implement plans for improvement, expansion and/or contracting of patient services, revise existing programs and services; participate in decisions that affect the ability of the hospital to provide quality patient care; serve as member of the Executive staff; work with tribal groups for the purpose of promoting and providing education of health programs; participate in the development, updating and implementation of programs to educate the service population and communities; responsible for the development, adaptation, implementation, revision and enforcement of the medical staff by-laws and the systems of credentialing and privileging.
Administrative Responsibilities: Exercise overall supervisory responsibility and accountability for the planning, development, organization, integration, and evaluation of clinical services for the service unit; formulate and implement overall clinical goals and plans; determine staff and other resources necessary; resolve Purchased & Referred Care (PRC) issues; coordinate physician services and medical care in nursing home facilities; responsible for the application and implementation of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program guidelines; coordinate recruitment efforts for physician staff; may serve as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO); formulate and implement all clinical programs and plans; directly supervise support supervisors; exercise approval or disapproval authority for personnel actions; establish, monitor, conduct progress reviews and final performance appraisals of subordinate supervisors and other key personnel of the division.
