Incumbent will provide guidance in the art of proper cleaning techniques of various types of fine furniture, furnishings, and accessories; and lead a work force of six to twelve housekeepers in various locations' and perform custodial duties in assigned locations and personally performs the work similar to that performed by the housekeepers. This is a non-sensitive position.
Incumbent is responsible to prioritize the areas to be cleaned; assigns employees to a block of rooms and common areas and establishes a priority for any non-routine work. Responsible for inspection of assigned work areas(s) to ensure proper cleanliness, inventory of supplies, refreshments, and amenities. Ensures that deadlines for quarters cleaning and inventories are met. Responsible for initial on-the-job training of new housekeepers in the performance of their assigned duties and continue with the Inns of the Corps Ambassador ongoing training program. Initial training also includes proper way to meet and deal effectively with a wide variety of Guests including Senior Officers, vacationing retirees, and junior enlisted personnel. Responsible for maintaining appropriate records on housekeeping, rooms, maintenance and common area work while representing management in leading a work force of up to twelve (NA-02 and NA-03) housekeepers in several locations. Incumbent will discuss and coordinate with supervisor work and leave schedules. Keeps supervisor abreast of daily accomplishments and of future requirements.
Duties include making beds, cleaning common areas and individual rooms, scrubbing private and public bathrooms, separating trash (example: following the state law on proper disposal of aluminum cans/paper), mopping and waxing floors and other related custodial duties. Required to empty large trash cans (weighing up to 45 lbs.) from public areas and take trash to dumpster containers located as much as 300 feet from building. Incumbent is responsible for explaining to subordinate employees any hazards that may be encountered; such as strong chemicals in certain cleaning solutions, slippery floors while washing, mopping or waxing, proper usage of step ladders when cleaning windows or changing light bulbs, etc. These hazards and their proper method of usage are to be brought to the attention of employees through on the job training and through continuing inspections of proper working habits, and checking grounds, stairways, outside steps, etc., for safety hazards.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Hazardous Waste Ordinance. Incumbent is responsible for reporting to the Housekeeping Manager (NF3) all maintenance requirements noted during the work shift, and will follow up by reporting repairs as they are completed, and will be responsible for instructing all subordinate employees to report maintenance requirements. Must have a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles to be transported from one work place to another.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Relays instructions from supervisor. Gets work started. Sets work pace. Demonstrates work methods, and provides work-related guidance. Ensures worksite materials and tools are available to complete work. Reports and completes documentation for workplace injuries. Advises the Housekeeping Manager or Inns Manager on Duty (MOD) or the Human Resources Office in the absence of any Inns of the Corps Manager. Checks with supervisor on problems. Checks on work and meets productivity goals. Ensures employees follow security, safety and housekeeping rules. Conducts on-the-job training and instructions. Performs managerial duties in an emergency, or short-term and nonrecurring basis.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

EVALUATIONS:
Skills and Knowledge: Must be able to work independently. Must have knowledge concerning all aspects of proper cleaning techniques of various types of fine furniture and furnishings, inventory and restocking of property, supplies and amenities. Requires ability to inspect and ensure readiness of quarters on a daily basis to include health and comfort aides to guests. Must be knowledgeable in common cleaning tools, cleaning agents, industrial type vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, and buffers. Must be able to operate both household and commercial washer and dryer. Must be knowledgeable in safe working habits, conditions and environment. Must have ability to train new housekeepers and to provide them with a continuous training program established by the Inns of the Corps Hawaii, and be able to coordinate work and leave schedules to accomplish work requirements. Must be knowledgeable in maintenance requirements and report it to the appropriate personnel. Must be able to read signs, follow written and oral instructions. Must be knowledgeable in fire, safety and security requirements. Incumbent must possess ability to lead employees. This includes but is not limited to: assisting employees when they have questions or are unsure of work requirements; to lead by example through display of good work habits; and to show employees where they need improvement or give praise as necessary.
Responsibility: The immediate supervisor is the Housekeeper Manager (NF3) or the General Manager who will furnish general and technical instructions and be available for assistance when required. The work is performed independently according to Inns of the Corps Hawaii policies, practices and established procedures. The work is periodically reviewed by upper management and guest complaints are immediately inspected and situation rectified.
Physical Effort: Involves physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, pushing cleaning carts, pushing roll-a-way beds, carrying portable cribs, moving heavy beds, sofas, dressers, and TV armoires; continually standing, bending, stooping, and reaching; moving and placing heavy linen in linen rooms; frequently pushing carts loaded with dirty laundry or waste paper and trash, and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 45 lbs. independently and over 45 lbs. with assistance.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is frequently exposed to heavy lifting, possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, strains, sprains, and skin irritations from use of strong cleaning solutions. Care is required to avoid injuries when working on ladders. The work is primarily performed indoors, which has adequate heat, light and ventilation; however some duties required are outside and will expose incumbent to heat, cold and varying types of weather.
