Incumbent reports directly to the Chief of Surgery and is responsible for facilitating the work of the Eye Clinic Section to achieve the mission, vision and values of the Dayton VA. The eye clinic section chief has supervisory responsibility for all employees within the eye clinic section (with exception of health technicians) and is accountable for overseeing the work and patient flow within eye clinic. Additionally, the Chief Optometrist supervises the optometrist residency program as primary residency faculty an affiliate with Ohio State University College of Optometry. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all work areas are compliant with JCAHO, OSHA. VHA Directives, Policies and Handbooks, Safety and Privacy Standards and follows standards set by the VA National Surgery Office. The incumbent is involved in planning, organizing and implementing surgical specialty and hospital-wide programs including fiscal and resource initiatives. human resource management, VHA and VISN performance measures and strategic planning. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborates with the Chief of Surgery in all eye clinic process flow and improvement recommendations
- Manages staff leave requests within eye clinic section
- Assumes responsibility for OPPE/FPPE process including contribution to provider performance reviews and evaluations semi-annually
- Collaborates with Nursing & Administrative managers on site; attending, huddles, operational meetings and service meetings
- Participates in the recruitment, interviewing and selection processes of new providers within eye clinic
- Evaluates competencies of newly hired/assigned personnel and orientation of staff to policies/procedures of the clinic & health system
- Investigates and resolves informal staff complaints and grievances
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, Variable tour based on Service needs
