The incumbent will serve as an Echocardiograph Technician for Medical Service, and independently perform all cardiac ultrasound exams (transthoracic echocardiogram, Stress echo, Dobutamine echocardiogram and assisting with Transesophageal echocardiogram). The incumbent will take ownership of the department and work areas as well as assists physicians and other hospital staff when necessary. The incumbent will also participate in the VA Orlando Medical Center Performance Improvement Program and display outstanding customer service while maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Evaluate test results and veteran patient responses to the extent of determining appropriate machine adjustments in selecting the method and techniques to yield the best results.
· Competent in the use, recognition and analysis of ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis.
· Operate diagnostic equipment to graphically record the position and motion of the heart walls or the internal structure of the heart by the echo obtained from beams of ultrasonic waves directed through the chest wall.
· Recognize evidences of cardiac emergencies on echocardiogram including acute myocardial infarction, serious arrhythmias, cardiac tamponade, mobile mass, vegetation, rupture of the ventricular wall and take appropriate action including notification of the physician, activate code blue team and initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
· Responsible for entering data and notification of procedure date and time in the patient computerized record system.
· Operate independently for the performance of ultrasound examinations.
· Perform a variety of diagnostic procedures which include Echocardiograms, 3D, Doppler Studies, Color Flow Studies, Trans esophageal Echocardiograms, Bubble Studies, Ultrasound Opacification, and Stress Echocardiograms.
· Assist the cardiologist with cardiology clinics and outpatient clinic consultations.
· Respond to emergency situations on an as needed basis; able to work very rapidly and accurately make adjustments with established or predetermined practices in response to the physician's demand or changes in the patient's condition.
· Perform operator maintenance on equipment and monitors equipment for PMs.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
