The incumbent is expected to assist with developing and organizing outdoor field science and resource education programs and activities. The programs and activities are learner-centered and are directly involved in the process leading to students understanding, appreciation of, and connection with the resources of Rocky Mountain National Park. Some programs and activities are physically challenging such as hiking in mountainous terrain in winter conditions or at high elevations. Many programs and activities utilize teaching techniques unique to an outdoor setting. Duties include developing educational materials and media requiring the use of graphic design, media editing, and word processing software. Assists with conducting teacher workshops or seminars and other education-related conferences to prepare educators to bring their classes of students to the park. Audiences include primary and secondary teachers, college and university students and faculty, community groups, and staff from local, state, and federal agencies, as well as area nature centers. Workshops and seminars often provide college or university credit and professional training.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for the possibility of extensions or rehire in subsequent service years.
Physical Demands: Work responsibilities require occasional heavy lifting in excess of 40lbs., strenuous periods of walking, long periods of standing or sitting, and working in sometimes harsh weather conditions. Because the position works extensively with children outdoors and sometimes in remote locations, must have Basic First-aid and CPR certification.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both outdoors adn indoors. Conditions may include severe weather: cold, heat, wind, lightening, snow and rain. Temperatures may range from 90F to -20F, at elevations ranging from 8,000 to 12,500 feet. Position requires the driving of government vehicles to various sites. A valid Drivers License is required.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are NOT suitable for telework and the selectee will not be allowed to telework.

The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1,039 hours. Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved continuous road in the United States, stays above tree line for 11 miles and reaches 12,183 feet in elevation. Elk, deer, bighorn sheep, moose, coyotes, and smaller animals are found throughout the park, as well as threatened and endangered species, such as the Greenback Cutthroat Trout and Boreal Toad.
