The Associate Chief Counsel, Income Tax and Accounting (ITA) employs approximately 90 tax professionals who work in our national office in Washington, D.C. These attorneys provide legal advice and litigation support on tax matters involving recognition and timing of income and deductions of individuals and corporations, sales and exchanges, capital gains and losses, accounting methods and periods, installment sales, long term contracts, inventories and alternative minimum tax to the IRS, the Office of Chief Counsel, the Dept. of Treasury, and to other government agencies and the public.

GS-09: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes, but is not limited to: Served on teams or task forces with impact on multiple offices; monitored activities and accomplishments of program goals; developed training and action plans; estimated resource requirements; procured and managed office resources; evaluated and recommended improved office operations.
GS-11: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes, but is not limited to: Oversee a staff that performed a full range of administrative and office management activities for an organization that served multiple customer groups and upper management; served on teams or task forces with impact on multiple offices; monitored activities and accomplishments of program goals; developed training and action plans; estimated resource requirements; procured and managed office resources such as office supplies; evaluated and improved office operations.
OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: For the GS-09: must have a master's or equivalent or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D if related. For the GS-11: must have a PH.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a LL.M, if related. The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
The experience may have been gained in the public or private sector, or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
