Current undergraduate (sophomore, junior, senior) and graduate accounting, finanace, and business administration majors as of June 30, 2019.
We offer students robust responsibilities and experiences that enhance their potential careers. Over the course of the ten-week program, students work with OIG staff on projects particular to the Office of Inspector General's Office of Audits. In addition to assisting in auditing activities (such as audits, evaluations, and audit planning), students will have the opportunity to participate in activities that will provide detailed information and guidance on securities laws and other SEC mission-related topics.
This position is in the Office of Inspector General, located in Washington, DC. The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office within the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that conducts audits of programs and operations of the Commission and investigations into allegations of misconduct by staff or contractors. The mission of the OIG is to detect fraud, waste and abuse, and to promote integrity, economy, efficiency and effectiveness in the Commission's programs and operations. This internship will be located within the OIG's Office of Audits. The Office of Audits conducts, coordinates, and supervises independent audits and evaluations of the SEC's internal programs and operations at its headquarters and 11 regional offices.
Undergraduate and graduate students will be assigned to work with SEC staff members on projects and assignments that cover a broad range of the Commission's work. That work may vary depending upon the project (audit, evaluation or special project) to which the student is assigned. We have high expectations for our interns, often assigning them the same work we would give a newly-hired auditor. Students are assigned as a member of an audit team, performing such tasks as interviewing agency officials, sampling populations, measuring agency programs against established criteria and documenting work performed. In addition, students may also be assigned special projects by senior staff.
For additional information on the Office of Inspector General, please read the Inspector General's website.
