As a Supervisory Chemist, your typical work may include overseeing the technical work performed by chemists as follows:
Supervising Chemists who perform the assays, stability monitoring of both investigational and non-investigational medications in support of the Clinical Center research activities and the NIH Intramural Research Program.
Performing long-term research projects that involve numerous different types of testing.
Manage and oversee a compliant GMP facility.
Determining the methods to be developed to complete the various phases of the project.
Developing new methods or modifies existing ones for collecting, analyzing, organizing and recording experimental data appropriate for publication and future reference by others.
Recreating experiments describing protocols, methods, and procedures used; summaries of data obtained; and descriptions of any problems or unusual situations encountered in carrying out the experiment.
Managing all assigned projects and protocols. Determining the time and resources required, coordinating with customers involved, preparing project proposals, and planning reports as required in a timely manner.
Developing quality control procedures with analytical methodology and standards to ensure consistency in analytical data developed.
Critically analyzing results of experiments to determine whether data generated is accurate and valid, comparing results with previous related studies to verify data validity, identifying unusual or unexpected results and their probable causes and reruns experiments or modifying conditions as necessary.
