As a GENERAL ATTORNEY you will be responsible for the following duties:
Provide legal advice to DSS Defense Vetting Directorate and other DSS officials on all aspects of federal personnel security, including eligibility, suitability, fitness, and credentialing investigations and vetting.
Provide legal services (including legal advice, advocacy and representation) to all components of DSS in subject areas including: Personnel security programs and policies; agreements with federal agencies, State and local governments, and with businesses and other non-government entities; federal administrative law; National Industrial Security Program (including foreign, ownership, control and influence); Freedom of Information Act; Privacy Act; federal personnel law; and, Federal fiscal law.
Review DSS and DoD directives, regulations, correspondence and other issuances for legal sufficiency, and makes recommendations regarding necessary changes to those issuances.
Serve as the designated DSS representative in all stages of litigation before administrative forums, including the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
Design, develop and conduct instruction for DSS employees on matters within the purview of the DSS Office of General Counsel, such as Standards of Conduct, personnel security policies and programs industrial security issues, and fiscal.
Specialized experience required for this position is:
You must have professional legal experience (i.e., working as an attorney) in excess of 3 years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of this position.
You must be an active member in good standing in the bar of the highest court of a state, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia.
The selectee can expect to be working with attorneys and other officials from all DoD Components, other Federal organizations, State and local governments, as well as businesses and other non-government entities, so knowledge of, and experience working with, DoD or other Federal organizations is desirable, but not required.
You must be a graduate from an accredited law school with the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.).
AND
Be an active member in good standing in the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia.

This position's duty station is located at the Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. Occasional travel to the Defense Security Service (DSS) Headquarters in Quantico, Virginia will be required. The purpose of this position is to serve as Assistant General Counsel (non-supervisory) (Contract) in the DSS Office of General Counsel.
