Serves as an Engineering Technician (ET, also knows as General Maintenance Technician) assigned to a Systems Support Center (SSC) and responsible for infrastructure sustainment activities within the assigned SSC and other parts of the District as required. Work is completed using various general and specialized trade skills, including but not limited to; electrical, carpentry, painting, concrete, plumbing, welding, and drywall. The ET has responsibility for developing supply estimates for various projects, gathering technical data, evaluating/formulating safety procedures, determining manpower, and material and fiscal requirements for assigned projects. The ET may assist a project coordinator in planning, cost estimating, designing, developing, and completing local projects. In addition, the ET must be capable of learning airport layouts and have the ability to navigate safely throughout Airport Operations Areas. ETs possess a working knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures pertaining to the construction work environment, i.e. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), facility, system, and equipment security, Environmental Compliance Assessment Protocol (ECAP), and National Electrical Code (NEC). Applies electrical, mechanical, and structural knowledge to perform duties as assigned, and is required to periodically interpret construction and building blueprints. The ET applies experience and detailed technical construction knowledge in order to plan and complete assignment in support of the National Airspace System (NAS). Project contacts include, but are not limited to, District Office(s), other FAA organizations, local airport authority, and contractors. Contacts are made to share information, provide data, furnish technical guidance, and discuss the status of the assignment. These contacts are internal and external, but are not limited to the scope of the employee's work. Maintenance of the structure surrounding a facility, such as the landscaping, fence, and gates can also fall within the duties of an ET.

TO QUALIFY FOR PAY BAND G: To qualify for this position at the FV-G level you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-F (FG/GS- 9 and below) level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include, but is not limited to the knowledge of the fundamentals of Engineering Technician work, i.e., using a variety of trade skills such as electrical, carpentry, painting, concrete, plumbing, welding, and drywall: interpreting diagrams, specifications, manuals, and supply/ cost estimates.
