This position is responsible for assisting the Marketing/Graphics staff in the production of promotional and administrative print materials. The position involves the coordination of the print production process and maintenance of a variety of equipment used in the support of Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) throughout Navy Region Mid-Atlantic. Responsible for setting-up, adjusting, operating and maintaining multi-color printing systems including a black & white; two color copiers; plate maker; cutters; folder; stitcher; heat seal machine; paper drill; jogger; collator and other bindery equipment. Cleans, lubricates and checks equipment to ensure proper working condition. Assists with performing minor repairs to equipment as necessary and assists with arranging periodic maintenance. Assists with monitoring Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and maintains compliance with all regulations regarding the use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials. Assists with placing supply order for paper, inks and printing press and copier supplies. Makes maintenance calls as needed. Assists with obtaining quotes for pre-press, print and bindery work when jobs require outsourcing. Assists with tracking progress on outsourced work to ensure vendor’s requirements are met, timely blue line and product delivery, and cost efficiencies. Works closely with departmental graphics artists to ensure designs meet print specifications. Provides excellent customer service by exercising tact, diplomacy and courtesy in a prompt and friendly manner. Assists the Printing Coordinator and staff members by performing clerical and administrative tasks in support of the operation including product deliver, packaging and shipping. Maintains shipping equipment, supplies and spaces in a neat and orderly fashion. Ensures shop is left in good condition daily, and no safety hazards are present. Performs other duties as assigned. Acts for Printing Coordinator in his/her absence.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Must possess the technical knowledge required for the safe and correct operation of all assigned printing and processing equipment. Must possess a minimum three (3) years general experience in printing and copying processes
Must be able to setup, make ready and run final products that show uniformity of colors, solids and screen tents, and to meet quality requirements. Must be able to make adjustments to the press to run a variety jobs, inks, sheet sizes and paper stock. Must be able to make minor repairs to printing and bindery equipment. Must be able to read printing specifications and terminology, take precise measurements and perform simple arithmetic. Must be able to determine all materials need to produce a specific job and order materials accordingly. Must possess knowledge of hazardous waste safety rules and regulations. Must be able to work under short deadlines and shifting priorities.Must possess written communication skills and the ability to perform basic math computations to process paperwork and perform physical inventories.
Works under the general supervision of the Supervisory Printing Coordinator (NF-1654-04) who will outline and set program objectives and goals. Incumbent is expected to perform assigned tasks independently, and set appropriate priorities according to guidance provided and technical knowledge of processes.
Guidelines consist of existing agency regulations that prescribe general standards, regulations, program policies and responsibilities in broad outline form, and OSHA and Safety regulations. Guidelines also include technical manuals and directions for equipment used. Generally guidelines are specific and clear. Judgement must be used to ensure the proper methods and equipment are used for the task at hand to ensure a timely, quality product.
The work covers a range of subjects and equipment, requires preparation of acceptable drawings in many styles and proficiency in the use of different media. The incumbent makes decisions necessary to work out details of the final illustration after discussion with supervisor.
The incumbent is responsible for supporting a multi-faceted printing operation. This program includes desk top publishing, black & white and color copiers, four-color presses, cutters, folders and other bindery equipment. The positive effects of a job well done are significant in terms of increased facility utilization and program usage, revenue enhancement, and customer satisfaction.
Personal contacts are with personnel from various levels within the MWR program, Safety, Occupational Health, the US Navy and outside organizations. The highest level of professionalism and customer service must be maintained at all times.
Contacts with customers are made to plan and advise on print work efforts. In addition, contact with vendors ensures successful production of outsourced jobs and timely order fulfillment.
The work requires visual, manual dexterity and color determination. The work requires physical ability to lift and move paper products and supplies and includes movement of equipment for use on a daily basis. Incumbent needs to be able to regularly and repeatedly lift up to 40 pounds. The majority of the work is conducted while standing.
The work is primarily performed indoors in a noisy, active print shop and involves exposure to odors from inks, lacquers, thinners and active compounds commonly used in the Graphic Arts/Print Environment. Shop temperature is kept below that of an administrative office due to the equipment and to keep paper supplies from warping.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
