WHAT DOES AN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION) DO? An Information Technology (IT) Specialist (Systems Administration) is involved in local projects, or substantial national level projects, that involve optimizing system performance, and resolving difficult and complex system administration problems. In this position, you will be called upon to support and address difficult and complex problems in the installation and control of application software, diagnosing and recovering failed systems, and optimizing the functionality of networks and systems. You will deal with long-range plans, new cutting-edge technologies or issues, and may assist in the development of new policies or make significant changes to existing policies. Your knowledge and expertise will be called upon daily to resolve exceptionally complex and broad IRS problems or projects and critical issues.
WHAT IS THE RESEARCH, APPLIED ANALYTICS AND STATISTICS DIVISION: Research, Applied Analytics and Statistics (RAAS), anticipates and meets customer’s needs by providing leading research, analytical, statistical, and technology services. RAAS provides an intellectually challenging and supportive environment for our employees. We are the leading source for data analytics, analytical and statistical support, research tools and information, and breakthrough technologies within the IRS. RAAS recommendations, studies, and data are effectively used to assist in the administration of the U.S. tax system and to improve IRS performance. Our projects encompass a variety of subjects, including statistical analyses, program evaluations, research on topics affecting tax administration, compliance studies, and the administration of enterprise research resources. RAAS serves as a consultant to the IRS Commissioner and the Senior Executive Team and is a strategic partner for decisions affecting Servicewide operations.
