The Watervliet Arsenal is located in Watervliet, New York. It is an Army-owned and operated manufacturing center and is located about 160 miles north of New York City, NY on the western bank of the Hudson River. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the Department of Defense that has a weapons research facility (Benet Laboratories) collocated with a manufacturing facility (Arsenal).
