The incumbent serves as a Personal and Professional Development Program Advisor and provides information, advice and guidance to Marines and families. Helps clients assess their values, interests, abilities and skills and relate these to opportunities for employment, education, training. Assess the client’s financial readiness circumstances and provides advice in order to aid the process of supporting their individual development plan and mitigating financial readiness concerns. As an advisor, the incumbent serves in a trust and confidence position and possesses and maintains competencies in the areas of employment, education, vocational/technical, and personal financial management disciplines.
Researches and writes information on local and national career, education and/or personal financial management opportunities and produces supporting materials. Uses computer-aided guidance packages and develops web-based materials for use by Marines and their Families. Administers and interprets psychometric tests and personality inventories. Visits employers and professional bodies, both large and small, to obtain information about opportunities, recruitment procedures and policies, and labor market trends. Liaises with unit commanders to promote the use of advisement services . Advises on careers, education programs and the development of skills required by employers and entrance to colleges, universities or vocational learning. Develops and directs programs and services designed to equip students with necessary job search skills and employment preparation strategies. Uses internet applications and databases that support and deliver career, education or training services. Assists students in selecting course work appropriate to their skills levels and career/academic goals. Contribute to the curriculum used by the Marine Corps for personal and professional development program.
Advises clients on financial plans. Analyze financial information obtained from clients to determine strategies for meeting client’s financial objectives. Determine eligibility for specific financial aid programs. Conduct seminars and workshops on financial planning topics such as debt management, budgeting, car buying, investments, etc. Contact client’s creditors to arrange for payment adjustments so that payments are feasible for clients and agreeable to creditors. Devise debt liquidation plans that include payoff priorities and timelines. Recommend strategies clients can use to achieve their financial goals and objectives.
Assists in the development of policy and procedures that support effective execution of advisement to individuals and organizations to promote the academic, career, personal and social development of authorized patrons. Policies and procedures will help Marines and families evaluate their abilities and interests, talents and personalities to develop realistic academic and career goals that are supported with appropriate financial plans to enable achieve. Evaluates and interprets data to identify and clarify issues and concerns; determines appropriate course of action to positively affect work/life relationships, mission readiness, recruitment and retention.
Conducts, organizes and provides program analysis and economic analyses to ensure functional needs are met for programs and services. Recommends corrective actions and supports follow up inspections. Assists in the development of plans and conduct of analyses for current and projected programs to achieve goals and objectives. Collects, verifies and adjusts data from diverse sources and performs qualitative analysis.
Prepares reports and budgets for the personal and professional development programs.
Conducts presentations and individual/group advisement sessions using a variety of techniques and methods. May work fluctuating work schedule to complete work assignments outside of the typical work week and work hours. Travels to complete work assignments.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. EVALUATIONS:
Master’s Degree in a related field is highly preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Rehabilitation, Personal Financial Management or related field is required. Must have a minimum of three years experience in, or related to, career planning, employment services, personal financial management, and direct advisement of students,. Experience in education, career and personal financial management development strategies for diverse higher education populations. Demonstrated success in cultivating collaborative relationships with clients, unit leadership, and professional colleagues. Understanding and use of current education practices in career advisement. Ability to organize activities and coordinate groups of people. Ability to relate to a diverse student population. Ability to communicate effectively (writing, listening, speaking). Ability to work independently and follow-through on assigned tasks. Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact, diplomacy, and overall professionalism. Must be able to operate a personal computer, printer, etc., and have current knowledge in various office computer programs and software applications. Ability to collect, evaluate, and disseminate information; assess and measure organizations’ and other serviced populations’ trends, concerns, and needs; assign in identifying and prioritizing goals. .
