The incumbent performs a variety of custodial duties in assigned locations. Furnishings include brass, crystal, glass, ceramic pfaltzgraff dishes and glasses, silk plants and a variety of accessories. Specific instructions are provided on what and where to clean and the methods to use. This is a non-sensitive position.
Incumbent performs a wide range of cleaning tasks using industrial type equipment in an assigned block of occupant quarters and common areas and provides numerous types of customer service. These will include but not be limited to the following: In quarters, cleaning will include making beds and changing linen, washing linen in commercial machine, cleaning bathrooms including toilets, showers and tubs; wash basins, mirrors and walls, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ash trays, emptying trash cans, and other related duties as assigned. Required to wax and polish furniture; clean furniture; and shampoo upholstered furniture in rooms and common areas. Kitchen area cleaning includes cleaning the refrigerator, to include defrosting and stocking; cleaning stoves, microwaves, washing dishes (pots, pans, glasses, etc.), range hood, wiping down cabinets, stocking amenities, separate trash (example: following the state law on proper disposal of aluminum cans/paper), empty irons, and update guest lodging books daily. Common area duties will include cleaning public toilets, sweeping, mopping, waxing and buffing, or vacuuming all hallways, lounges, lobbies, stairways, and common kitchen. The incumbent will be required to empty large trash cans (weighing up to 45 lbs.) from public areas and take trash to the dumpster containers located as much as 300 feet from the building; quarterly shampooing of carpets and cleaning windows inside and out. Incumbent also takes inventory of the furnishings daily, replaces light bulbs as needed in table/floor lamps, and reports all maintenance discrepancies to the House Supervisor or Leader. Required to meet deadlines for quarters cleaning and inventories to provide billeting. Required to read housekeeping checkout reports to determine daily workload. Strong cleaning solutions and ladders are used in performing the above duties. The incumbent will maintain the stock level of consumable janitorial supplies by ordering needed replacements at the proper time from the central supply office, or supervisor. Responsible for inventorying, ordering and stocking refreshments in assigned rooms on a daily basis. Responsible for inspecting assigned living units for completeness upon checkout of guests. Responsible for daily inventory of property including pilferable items, i.e. robes, irons, radios, etc. Responsible for reporting all missing, damaged or destroyed property immediately to supervisor. Turns in all lost property found on premises to office daily.
Will perform miscellaneous duties to include reporting unauthorized visitors or other suspicious incidents to supervisor, assisting with working parties, moving heavy items of furniture and supplies/ equipment, making adjustments and minor repairs on the industrial type equipment used. Required to meet and deal with guest effectively including protocol personnel and high echelon clientele and foreign officers. Will provide additional service when requested or refer guest to the appropriate department. The incumbent will remain in assigned work area during normal working hours. Incumbent is required to work independently and is responsible for assigned quarters. A valid driver’s license is recommended to operate company vehicles to be transported from one work place to another.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

EVALUATIONS:
Skills and Knowledge: Must be able to work independently. Must have knowledge concerning all aspects of rooms assigned, including but not limited to: Inventory and restocking of property, supplies and amenities. Must be knowledgeable and adept in the art of proper cleaning techniques of various types of fine furniture and furnishings. Must be able to use common cleaning tools, cleaning agents and industrial type vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners and buffers. Must be able to operate a washer and dryer.
Must be able to identify and call in for repair all maintenance problems; alert management when problems concerning guest treatment of quarters occurs; makes independent decisions regarding property and supplies in rooms such as stained furniture, carpets, damaged linen and supplies. Initial on the job training is provided with a continuous ongoing training program. Must be able to read signs, follow written and oral instructions.
Responsibility: The immediate supervisor is the Housekeeper Supervisor (NF3), or Housekeeper Leader (NL3), depending on area to which assigned, who will furnish general and technical instructions, training, and be available for assistance when required. The work is performed independently according to Transient Quarters policies, practices and established procedures. The work is reviewed by complaints and spot-checking by supervisor/leader. Guidance for special duties will be provided by Housekeeper Leader (NL3).
Physical Effort: Involves physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, pushing cleaning carts, pushing roll-a-way beds, carrying portable cribs; moving heavy beds, sofas, dressers, and TV armoires; continually standing, bending, stooping, and reaching; moving and placing heavy linen in linen rooms; frequently pushes carts loaded with dirty laundry or waste paper and trash, and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 45 lbs. independently and over 45 lbs. with assistance.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is frequently exposed to heavy lifting, possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, strains, sprains, and skin irritations from use of strong cleaning solutions. Care is required to avoid injuries when working on ladders. The work is primarily performed indoors, which has adequate heat, light and ventilation; however some duties required are outside and will expose incumbent to heat, cold, and varying types of weather.
