This position is located at the Mescalero Service Unit, Mescalero, New Mexico. The purpose of this position is to assess, diagnose, investigate, identify outcomes, plan, implement and administer a comprehensive public health nursing program for the Mescalero Service Unit.
The incumbent in this position assesses the health needs of individuals, families, and the community served, taking into account the total situation in the family, the home, and in the community environment including such considerations as educational level, income level, sanitary practices and hygiene conditions, psychological adjustment and resources available. Interviews and observes the patient, family members and others, observes the environment, studies the medical diagnosis and treatment plan and interprets tests previously administered. Evaluates these facts as they relate to each other, to the patient, to the family, and to the community.
Recommends nursing service needs, the incumbent takes into account the result of individual, family and group assessments, and also takes into account the broader considerations such as:

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned.
