Follows established procedures in receiving, checking, and sorting and classifying recyclable materials based on industry standards of characteristics such as weight, texture, color, and hardness. Work is usually performed either in a warehouse or property recycle facility. Performs the work of receiving, separating, and sorting a variety of recycle materials and sorts basic categories of common recyclable materials (i.e. paper, plastic, metal).
Operates paper and plastic bailer and low and high torque shredder. Also operates a variety of forklifts capable of lifting loads weighing up to 10,000 pounds to move, load, unload, stack, or un-stack various recycle materials.
Skill and Knowledge:
Able to recognize a limited number of basic recycle materials, such as paper and metal types. Operate gas or diesel forklifts, open-end auto tie baler, closed-end manual tie baler, and low speed high torque shredder.
Responsibility:
Examines, processes, and classifies a limited variety of common, easily recognized paper materials. Follows established Standard Operational Procedures for the receipt, identification, examination, and processing of recyclable materials. Responsible for the safe and proper operation of equipment, machinery, vehicles, and tools used and for observing all required operating and safety criteria in regard to the operation and use of these items.
Physical Effort:
Performs moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand, forklift, or hand cart. Lifts and carries items that weigh up to 50 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or assistance from other workers. Walks and stands for long periods of time. The work often requires bending, stooping, pulling and pushing heavy material.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed outside in containment areas on a year round basis. May be subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes in moving or handling material and equipment and are subject to hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as forklifts, trucks, and conveyer lines. When handling materials, protective equipment is provided and will be used.

This position is with the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation; Support Management Division; Located at the Post Recycle.
Flexible positions will normally be scheduled 0-40 hours per week dependent upon the needs of the organization. There is no guaranteed number of hours for flexible positions. This position is a Flexible position and there are no benefit entitlements.
Schedule will include nights, weekends and holidays.
