Performs basic, progressively more difficult assignments. Receives academic and on-the-job instruction in the fundamentals of this discipline. Acquires and applies basic technical knowledge and limited experience to accomplish assignments. Receives instruction in engineering, mechanical, electrical, or electronics fundamentals, federal aviation regulations, and shop practices.
Functions as an assistant to other employees during early development stages. As employee progresses in training, and gains experience, he or she independently completes assignments of limited difficulty. During early development stages, contacts are primarily internal to the immediate work unit. As training progresses, contacts are expanded to include representatives of external organizations. In both cases, contacts are made to share information, provide data, and discuss the status of assignments.
Regularly refers problems and questions to a supervisor, team leader, or more experienced technician. Works with increasing independence as development progresses. Supervisors, team leaders, or more experienced technicians define objectives, resources, and deadlines. Established manuals, procedures, and publications provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments. Supervisors, team leaders, and more experienced technicians furnish instructions for completing detailed assignments. Work is reviewed carefully and frequently while in progress and at completion for quality and timeliness.
Applies formal training in electronics and circuit analysis to troubleshoot, repair and modify electronic assemblies to the component level that are used in the National Airspace System (NAS) Instrument Landing System including (ILS)/electronic equipment, ILS antennas, subsystems and ILS components.
Utilizes established Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) work habits in all aspects of NAS system repair. This includes following current ESD procedures and guidelines as established within the Quality Management System (QMS).
Adheres to International Standards Organization (ISO) principles in the repair/maintenance/overhaul of all NAS equipment. This includes, but not limited to, the use of work instructions and knowledge of the QMS and associated policies.
Uses safety equipment provided and brings to the attention of the branch supervisor any safety hazard he/she is aware of in the work area. Conserves supplies, safeguards tools and operates and maintains hand and power tools properly.
Travel: Travel may be required into the field for service order requirements, emergency NAS system support, or technical/quality investigations. These services include, but are not limited to, removal and replacements, alignments, modifications, preventive maintenance, and overall system analysis.
Physical and Environmental Factors: Employee must be capable of heavy lifting (at least 45 pounds), pulling hand over hand, crawling, kneeling, climbing, depth perception, and operating a crane, truck, or motor vehicle. Employee may be required to work outside in excessive cold, heat, humidity, dust, solvents (degreasing agents), and on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Employee may be required to work on ladders or scaffolding at heights in excess of 130 feet.

To qualify for this position at the FV-F level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to next lower grade level, FV-E (FG/GS-8) in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE may include but is not limited to: Analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying, and evaluating electronic systems and equipment; experience utilizing a variety of electronics test equipment.
