This position is located in the Network Operations Center/J6 of the Vermont Army National Guard. Its purpose is to function as a technical specialist on issues relating to wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) systems and their integration in the network. The work involves network administration, optimization and performance in support of the state's wide area command and control integrated network.
Maintains and document firewall rules sets, monitor firewall logs, configure and monitor intrusion detection systems, reporting anomalies to the Network Engineer. Configures authentication utilizing TACACS and RADIUS. Ensures that all network devices are at the necessary IOS and configured to meet the security standards as designated by DISA.
Installs and maintains network sensors for network traffic analysis. Installs and maintains Virtual Private Network (VPN) systems for remote, secure, network access. Scans servers for vulnerabilities, notifies server owners of results. Patches vulnerabilities on all network devices.
Provides high quality network related customer support to all users of the VTARNG Local and Wide area networks.Maintains relationships through collaboration and information sharing with different entities in the Vermont Guard, surrounding states and higher commands to resolves issues.
Configures Cisco switches (VLANS, VTP Domains, SSH, IOS upgrades, VLAN routing) and routers (IP Addressing, Routing Protocols, ACLS). Backup and restore switch and router configurations.
Documents all network systems and maintains documentation. Installs and maintains network management server systems for network monitoring through SNMP, Netflow and Cisco Works. Proposes and prices new network devices. Performs network system maintenance and network troubleshooting. Researches, tests, pilots, and implements new network solutions as directed by the J6 management.
Military Grades: E1-E8
Compatible Military Assignments: ENL MOS: 25B, 25U, and 25Z in any unit within the Vermont Army National Guard.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have a minimum of 36 months:
Experience specializing in complex network design, implementation, and administration. Experience must involve techniques and requirements appropriate to network security, firewall, implementation and administration, VPN implementation and administration. Experience with windows and Unix based server administration is desired. Familiar with disaster recovery and continuity of operations planning and implementation. Experience preparing, proofing and publishing written guidance/documentation/run books.
Must also have 12 months experience, education or training that involves techniques and requirements appropriate configure Cisco switches. Must have a working knowledge of SQL database query languages, table relationships and views.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

-Applicants must possess a Secret Security Clearance or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance if selected.
-Applicant must possess industry certification or significant understanding in SANS, CISSP, Cisco, UNIX, CERT-CC. This must be identified on the application.

3. Knowledge of, and skill in applying network design principles and concepts, network architecture principles and concepts, network protocols, and remote access technology concepts.
4. Knowledge of, and skill in applying network operation and management tools, configuration management concepts, LAN/WAN principles and methods, network optimization techniques and acquisition management policies.
