SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
Works under the direction of an activity manager, who provides general instructions, standard procedures, and policies, and relies on the incumbent to control work operations and accomplish an adequate quality of work. Work is reviewed for efficient and economical accomplishment of assigned tasks within priorities and controls received.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Serves as a working supervisor over the kitchen work area exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations. The occupation and non-supervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operation supervised is Cook, NA-7404-06.
PLANNING:
Plans use of workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Establishes deadlines, priorities, work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies set by supervisors. Participates with superiors in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs and estimates.
WORK DIRECTION:
Assigns tasks to subordinates. Explains work requirements, methods and procedures, instruct subordinates in new procedures. Investigates and determines causes for work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity. Implements corrective actions to resolve work problems; and recommends solutions to staffing problems. Inspects completed work for quality and production.
ADMINISTRATION:
Plans and establishes overall leave schedule. Determines training needs. Responsible for training new employees. Sets performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinate work performance. Initiates recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates. Recommends disciplinary actions, and selects the most suitable applicants for vacancies. Investigates grievances and complaints, resolves them informally and notifies supervisors of those of a serious nature. Ensures safety and sanitation procedures and practices are observed. Maintains work reports and records.
Performs other duties as assigned.
