This position is for a Supervisory Psychiatrist at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. This position will be open until filled with cut-offs every two weeks.
The incumbent serves as the Supervisory Psychiatrist for the drug addicted/mood disorder section with the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. The section chief has broad management responsibilities which include the following duties:
Operation and management of key clinical, training, and administrative programs
Development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures
Oversight of administrative and programmatic resources
Monitoring outcomes using data-driven quality assurance process
Has supervisory responsibility for subordinates, as well as line and staff authority for resource allocations within the area of responsibility and ensures the efficient operation of the organizational unit
Responsibilities include the supervision of staff, professional management, and administrative responsibilities that are complex in scope and that constitute a significant component of the medical center
Ability to organize work, set priorities, delegate tasks and meet multiple deadlines
Skill in managing and directing the work of others to accomplish program goals and objectives, and ability to devise ways to adapt work operations to new and changing programs, staffing and budgeting requirements
Ability to translate management goals and objectives into well-coordinated controlled work operations
Ability to establish and monitor production and performance priorities and standards
Ability to deal effectively with individuals and groups representing widely divergent backgrounds, interest and points of view
Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in sound operation and programs
Ability to effectively supervise and manage subordinate employees
Skill in assessing qualifications and abilities of current and prospective employees
Ability to develop productivity standards appropriate to each service provided and each venue
Holds monthly psychiatry staff meetings and psychiatry training faculty meetings
Ensures that appropriate coverage is arranged for patient care
Resolves conflict among staff
