This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. The Pathways Internship Program allows students to join VA in career positions that emphasize long-term training and development. The student trainee will perform somewhat difficult and responsible clerical work in a medical office setting.
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Receives and directs telephone calls or visitors. Based on general knowledge of the organization, refers telephone callers and visitors to appropriate staff or office.
Processes incoming mail. Routes and distributes mail to appropriate individuals.
Maintains files and posts updates to manuals on policies, directives, and memoranda. Sets up and maintains a variety of files involving numerous subject headings and subheadings.
Prepares and maintains office forms of various types such as overtime requests, time sheets, and timecards for personnel within the office.
Performs routine, miscellaneous clerical work. Reproduces and assembles copies of a variety of correspondence. Uses office copying machines.
Accurately inputs data to various medical center system such as ROES, CPRS and VISTA.
Schedule consults and appointments
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00 to 4:30 or as agreed upon with the possibility of extended hours and weekends.

This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
