The Advanced Medical Support Assistant position provides services in a patient care setting which is delivered in a team oriented model and works collaboratively with other members of health care including; nursing, physicians, pharmacists, social workers, dieticians, behavioral health staff, ect. to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care. Important interfaces and collaborations also occur with larger health care system providers including VA and non VA specialists, hospitals, diagnostic and treating facilities and community based programs. The Advanced Medical Support Assistant position is a foundational role within the VHA Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) initiative. Patient care is delivered in a team based model known as the teamlet.
Duties include but not limited to:
Performs receptionist duties, customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients and maintains appointment schedules for one or more outpatient clinics;
Schedules, reschedules, cancels patient appointments;
Screen/receive phones calls in a courteous and timely manner, determine the nature of requests and provide the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes;
Coordinates with the patient care team to review the clinic utilization by using various reports (e.g., Clinic Utilization Statistical Summary), ensure that the clinic set up is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinic and make any necessary adjustments;
The Advanced Medical Support Assistant may be responsible for all Non-VA outpatient specialty clinic electronic consults along with processing authorizations for non-VA medical coordinating schedules with non-VA providers;
Performs other duties such as: participates in team huddles and meetings to manage and plan patient care; setting priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs; manage electronic wait list to verify and validate accuracy and resolve issues etc.
Work Schedule: To be determined by the service's needs. Candidate must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours. The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.
