The incumbent serves as the principal advisor to the AE and participates fully in the overall management, direction, and oversight of three directorates and eight Program Executive Offices (PEOs) within SOF AT&L that encompass science and technology (S&T) efforts, development and procurements, services, and sustainment.The Deputy Director participates with the AE in providing direction and oversight on the programming, budgeting, and resourcing of these
directorates, PEOs, and direct reporting program managers within SOF AT&L.Represents the AE by attending top-level meetings, providing and receiving guidance, exchanging information, and ensuring uniformity regarding acquisition policies, procedures, and philosophies. Serves as a member on executive-level DoD and industry working groups and manages USSOCOM's strategic acquisition planning process.The incumbent is responsible to ensure the core classified national information protection security disciplines of information are fully covered from a policy and programmatic view point to ensure overall information protection requirements meet mission requirements.

A screening panel will evaluate the candidates for this position composed of a diverse mix of senior executives selected for organizational and/or functional backgrounds relevant to this position. The qualifications stated are the minimum requirements of the position to be Qualified, a rating schedule will be applied by a screening panel to determine which candidates are considered to be Best Qualified. Then, they will meet to discuss each application, and reach a consensus decision as to the best qualified, qualified or not qualified candidates. The panel will interview all of the best-qualified candidates based upon consistently applied criteria. The panel will then make a recommendation of those best-qualified candidates who should be referred to the selecting official, in priority order. Final selection of a candidate is contingent upon the Air Force Executive Resources Board, Secretary of the Air Force and the Office of Personnel Management approval.
