This position is part of the Dept of Defense Chief Information Officer. As a Information Technology Specialist (PLY PLN), this position is located in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, DoD Chief Information Officer, Office of the Deputy Chief Information Officer for Command, Control, Communications and Computers and Information Infrastructure Capabilities (DCIO (C4&IIC)).
The DoD CIO is the Principal Staff Assistant (PSA) and advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense for information technology (IT), including national security systems (NSS), information resources management (IRM) matters. The DoD CIO is responsible for all matters relating to information and the DoD information environment including command and control (C2), communications, radio frequency spectrum, network operations, information systems, information assurance (IA), defensive cyber security, and positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT).
The DCIO (C4&IIC) serves as a Deputy CIO and Senior Military Advisor to the DoD CIO responsible for the integration of various technical disciplines and projects toward a cohesive military capability for the warfighter and also provides senior uniformed military perspective for the DoD CIO for C4, non-intelligence space matters, network-centric operations, spectrum management, PNT, NSS, IA and IT systems. The DCIO (C4&IIC) serves as DoD CIO senior military liaison to the CJCS/VCJCS and COCOM C4 community, and assists in the coordination of the aforementioned activities for the Services and Defense Agencies.
The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) is the principal staff element of the Secretary of Defense in the exercise of policy development, planning, resource management, fiscal, and program evaluation responsibilities. OSD includes the immediate offices of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense, Under Secretaries of Defense, Director of Defense Research and Engineering, Assistant Secretaries of Defense, General Counsel, Director of Operational Test and Evaluation, Assistants to the Secretary of Defense, Director of Administration and Management, and such other staff offices as the Secretary establishes to assist in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
