As an internationally recognized scientific expert, provide technical expertise, stature, and experience necessary to serve as the senior interface between PACAF and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), other commands, services, agencies, industry, FFRDC and the scientific community. Authoritatively guide PACAF's support to core area technical programs in coordination with MAJCOM directors, NAF commanders, Air Staff and sponsoring agencies such as Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Department of Energy, National Reconnaissance Office, National Security Agency, etc. Participate in PACAF's long range planning process and inform long range concept and 'roadmap development. Mentor and develop members of the staff across the command to assure technical quality and excellence in program execution in areas of highest interest to the Air Force. Serve as air component senior S&T representative in joint activities and meetings with other services across the Pacific Command.
For 0800, General Engineering Series:
a. A professional engineering degree from an accredited institution is required. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

D. DRUG TESTING POSITION. This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Position requires the incumbent sign a Drug Testing letter (Condition of Employment for all Civilian Senior Executive (CSE) Positions identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program) and pass urinalysis testing prior to appointment. This position also requires random drug testing in accordance with Executive Order 12564, dated 14 Sep 86.
E. TRAVEL. Position requires travel under conditions specified in the DoD Joint Travel Regulations.
Incumbent is expected to travel on short notice.
F. VETERANS' PREFERENCE. Veterans' preference is generally not applicable to the CSE.
G. PROBATIONARY PERIOD. An individual's initial SL career appointment becomes final only after the individual successfully completes a 2-year probationary period.
