The Mental Health Service at the Detroit VA Medical Center is a large inter-professional service that provides comprehensive MH services to Veterans. In addition to many programs and services, we have an engaged leadership team with many supervisory positions. This position is intended to work closely with the Director, SUD and Case Management, as well as the Deputy ACOS/MH and the ACOS/MH.
The Supervisor OMHC is responsible for the direct supervision of multiple staff, including psychologists and social workers. The Clinic is also the primary training location for psychology interns and post-doctoral fellows, as well as residents. Although the Supervisor OMHC is not responsible to directly supervise them, s/he will work closely with the ACOS and Deputy ACOS as well as training and rotation Program Directors to ensure appropriate coordination between clinical and training needs are met. This supervision involves authorizing leave, developing contingency plan, conducting performance appraisals with input from ACOS and Deputy ACOS. The incumbent assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with all safety requirements and other facility policies and procedures. Responsibilities also include the professional management and completion of administrative responsibilities for the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. The clinic is multidisciplinary and is composed of BHIP teams, each of which have a number of staff members of different disciplines. The clinic services over 10,000 Veterans annually and is the primary hub of the Mental Health Service from which all other programs and specialty services extend. In addition it is the site for the continuity clinic rotation for psychiatry residents. in addition, the program employees various clinical coordinators, each with differing clinical foci. The incumbent will supervise each of these coordinators, and ensure timely resolution of Clinical Consultations, provision of service recovery, oversight over program census, ensuring smooth and seamless transitions of care, ensure display of data, and manages walk-in mental health services within the OMHC.
Physical Requirements: Requires ability to access various treatment settings within the facility. Ability to use computers throughout the day for data input. May require an individual to manage light lifting and carrying (under 10 pounds), climbing stairs as needed, and operation of a motor vehicle. A valid driver's license is required.

Incumbent will be responsible for overseeing peer support service within the OMHC and providing individual supervision to peer support specialists with the clinic. The incumbent will also be responsible for supervising programs associated with the BHIP, including the PTSD
and MST programs, Neuropsychological Assessment, and psychological/assessment services within the TBI program. This will include oversight &programming and supervision of staff within these programs.
The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on mental health access, including facilitating weekly access meeting, generating reports based upon various access metrics, and monitoring staff compliance/follow-up on access related metrics. The incumbent will monitor staff productivity and clinic utilization among the various providers in the OMHC, along with monitoring and enhancing evidence-based psychotherapy service delivery and psychological assessment.
The incumbent will be responsible for developing/maintaining operational plans for the OMHC to maintain efficient and coordinated daily operations. This will included, but not limited to creating/maintaining written policies and procedures, along with detailed job instruction sheets according to Iean IDVAMS methodology, The incumbent will also be responsible for identifying areas for improvement within clinic operations, along with monitoring quality improvement projects/metrics. The incumbent will work with supervisors from other disciplines and areas. such as nursing and ward administration to ensure efficient operation within the clinic with an emphasis on monitoring and improving customer satisfaction.
The incumbent is also be responsible for telemental health services provided to both the Yale and Pontiac CBOC. This includes working with telemental health staff with clinic/equipment set-up, along with clinical staff at both sites with the coordination and delivery of services. The incumbent will also not only responsible for overseeing current telemental health services, but staying abreast and expanding these services to meet the growing needs for telemental health services, including service delivery off- site, to Veteran's homes, and utilization' of different types of technology/applications.
The Supervisor MHOC will be a member of our clinical team, and as such will participate in delivery of clinical care.
Providing care within the programs under one's supervision ensures that the incumbent remain knowledgeable about the
experience of being a provider within our clinic. This will help the incumbent to remain knowledgeable about delivery of
care within our clinical setting, and hopes to inform new program development and program modifications.
